THE SOLOIST

The classic focal point for any space, The Soloist is the star of the show. Centered over a bed, or couch, or wherever, this type of display is all about impact! The Soloist is perfect for large pieces because they don’t get lost on a big wall and won’t be upstaged by furniture or other decor items. Make sure that you really love this piece and pick something truly special because it’s sure to become a highlight of your home. Consider a commission to make sure it’s exactly what you want for your space.

THE DUET

Two works of art in perfect harmony, that’s what The Duet is all about! Two pieces of the same size can come together to make something close to the impact of The Soloist but at a lower price (since they’re smaller). While they don’t have to be as similar as this example, nor do they even need to be by the same artist, The Duet is all about balancing visuals in a way that creates a cohesive look. The easiest way to do this is with what is called a diptych, two artworks specially created to be shown together. The result is pure music!

THE CHOIR

Otherwise known as The Gallery Wall, The Choir is great if you just love art so much and can’t decide on a bigger piece or you love supporting a lot of artists in little impactful ways. The level of cohesion with The Choir can vary between size, style of frame or color of the art and it can be difficult to get right. But just like an actual choir, if each piece does their part it can make something truly beautiful and effortlessly cool.

BEYONĆE & HER BACKUP DANCERS

Similar to the Soloist but with more production value, The Beyoncé is ready to slay. The key to this is display type is choosing a superstar focal piece, something large and unique usually does the trick. Then pick the smaller supporting artwork that really helps the focal piece shine. You can do this with 1-2 supporting pieces (à la Single Ladies) or with a whole crew (think Formation). No matter which you chose the result will be a dynamic little moment in your space and the perfect opportunity for a shelfie.

ACAPELLA

Sometimes a frame feels a little too formal and you just need to break it down to the basics. A big trend right now is the anti-frame for hanging art prints such as Bulldog Clips (pictured below), Wooden Hangers (like this fancy one or this one that’s actually for pants but who is gonna know?!) or even just tape (hellooo, washi tape anyone? ????‍♀️). There are so many ways to bring art into your home that doesn’t require the financial drain or emotional commitment of framing. I do recommend that you reserve this technique for prints since originals are more precious (and expensive) and if you want them to last you should keep them protected. For prints, though, this method of displaying artwork is aca-awesome!
