MARCH
EXPLORE IMBALANCE
You know that feeling you get when you’re balancing on something, maybe a paddle-board or a small boat, and suddenly you realize that you’re starting to tip to one side. As fast as that feeling hits you, you throw your weight to the other side to try and right yourself but your movement is too fast and strong. Your attempt at correction made things worse and now you’re tumbling over into the water. I thought about that feeling a lot during last month’s art challenge.
I thought this challenge would be like the last two, Find Unexpected Colors and Embrace Subtly but it turns out that actively trying to bring Imbalance to my art is a struggle that goes against my nurture. It was much harder than I anticipated.
Each piece I created felt like I was forcing myself to tip the boat. The first few pieces of the month didn’t turn out well but slowly that fear tipping over and getting wet went away.
Now that the month is over and I reflect back on this challenge, I don’t think I will take on imbalance as intensely but use it strategically: combining February and March to “embrace subtle imbalance.”
